Ekasari offers the finest selection of Jasmine Tea, Black Tea, Green Tea, Japanese Tea and Flavored Tea from growing estates around Java. Our teas are grown in nourishing environments, harvested by skilled pickers, carefully processed by modern equipments and graded by tea experts. Available in both loose, bulk containers as well as convenient tea bags, our tea products are a favorite among tea lovers at home and abroad.
History
Ekasari's tea products have been renowned among the people of Solo and Pekalongan in Central Java since the 1950s. Originally called Gunung Sari, the company employed 50 employees and produced Jasmine Tea, Green Tea and Black Tea on 500m2 of land in Pekalongan. Pekalongan is a beach region and also the largest producer of jasmine flowers in Indonesia. We obtain jasmine flowers daily and grow our tea on agricultural estates around Java. Each month, about 50 tons were produced with Jasmine Tea as the lead product.
Modern Tea Producer
In 1983, the company changed ownership and began to transform into a modern tea producing company. Our land area increased to 3 ha, a new factory was built and modern machineriessuch as ECPs, FBDs, and Rotary Dyers were installed. Marketing was initially focused on the Solo and Pekalongan areas. In 1990s, the market expanded to include Madiun and Jakarta, followed by the entire Java and all the other islands, such as Sumatra, Kalimantan, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara. Production capacity increased by 10 fold and more machines had to be added to meet the growing demand. We also began exporting Black Tea and Green Tea in bulk to Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Europe.
In 1998, a change in management caused the company to be renamed to C.V. Teh Sepeda Balap. By this time, Teh Sepeda Balap has leased about 5 agricultural estates (500 ha in each area) to grow and cultivate tea. Two estates are located in Tawangmangu and Pekalongan (Central Java) while the other three are in Cipanas-Bogor, Subang and Garut (West Java). Each estate is fully equipped with 8 rotary dryers, 6 ECPs, 5 FBDs, and 6 sorting machines. To suit a diverse market, many variants of Sepeda Balap Tea are available in assorted packaging. Currently, Sepeda Balap, Lucu, and Dakocan are the top selling brands in the local market.
Leader in Tea Industry
In 2000, the company was renamed to Ekasari as it diversifies its product line to include coffee, herbs and spices. Ekasari has become a leader in the tea industry because of our rich experience an expertise in developing innovations for a wide rage of markets. In early 2000, we added flavored tea to our collection and introduced packaging in the form of tea bags. They became highly popular and soon we began to export packaged tea abroad. Currently, we produce 750 tons of tea every month and employ 600 employees. Altogether we have 45 distributors, 100.000 retail outlets and 300 people sales force and we are continuing to grow. We advertise our products via print media, TV commercials, sales promotions and radio talk shows. Our distributors are growing in numbers at an unparalleled rate as we penetrate the market. A province which used to have a single distributor now has dozens of distributors.
Future Commitment
In the near future, we plan to launch herbal teas such as echinacea, ginger and chrysanthemum. We also commit ourselves to acquiring more laboratory equipments to ensure top quality of our products.
